A city woman has been charged with animal cruelty after she did not get medical treatment for her puppy with a broken leg, authorities said.
Elizabeth Moshier, 28, was charged Tuesday by the Schenectady County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals with a misdemeanor for not seeking medical care for her 6- month-old pit bull puppy named Sheeba.
The SPCA says Moshier took the dog to the Aqueduct Animal Hospital in Niskayuna with a broken leg on Oct. 22.
Moshier said she thought one of her children stepped on the dog, the SPCA says.
However, the woman allegedly refused treatment, saying she would take the dog to a clinic where the cost might be lower. The SPCA says the veterinarian followed up with the woman, and found out that by Nov. 2 she still had not gotten the dog’s leg fixed.
The veterinarian took over temporary ownership and treated the dog. The SPCA is seeking an adoption for the dog, which will not be placed in an animal shelter.
